We recently completed this shower room installation in Colchester, converting this old style separate bathroom and W/C into this spacious shower room.
We started as usual by protecting the home to prevent as much of the dust and debris from entering the rest of the building. The customer moved out for the duration of the works which meant we were able to just shut and tape the doors into the other rooms.
Works completed:
The original layout was a sperate bathroom and w/c, which hadn’t been updated in many years. We removed the non-structural partition wall which meant we didn’t need to add any steal for support and blocked up the second door creating a large shower room with plenty of light and room.
We adjusted the plumbing around the room to suit the new installation, we also installed a new combination boiler to this property which meant we were able to utilise the mains pressured water meaning no need for pumps or other means of boosting pressure to the dual function shower.
With there originally being two rooms, we adjusted the electrical supply to allow for a single room lighting circuit with 4 spot lights and added an extractor fan to aid removal of the steam created by the shower. As an added feature the customer asked for us to add a electrical boost for the towel rail. This no runs off the boiler heating and can be used independently off the electrical supply.
We then had the room and the hall wall plastered to leave a smooth finish, once dry we could then seal the plaster ready for painting and tiling.
The tiles were 600 x 300 grey format and were installed and finished in a brick bond with a gunmetal coloured grout which really matched these tiles. With the brushed chrome tile beading to finish the external edges this really gave a modern stylish look. We added the palio clic flooring again as a contrast in tone but still keeping the colour theme which we believe really looks to leave a quality finish and warm feel.
The larger format walk in shower area with the anti-slip tray was ideal for the elderly customer to be able to get in and out comfortably. The large screen rather than an enclosure with a door, minimises the working parts within the wet area, the water in the colchester area is very high in calcium and limescale build up on doors, hinges and sliding runner can cause costly repairs and be a real pain to keep clean.
The customer wanted to add storage to the shower room so we used bathroom furniture with a deep basin vanity unit for extra space. The toilet furniture helps conceal the working parts of the toilet, but this unit allows for total access for future maintenance.
