We completed this bathroom installation on Mersea Island, where we removed an old shower room which had been poorly designed into this lovely spacious bathroom which utilised the space far better.
Works completed:
We removed the old shower room sanitary ware and tiling to expose all the walls. Fortunately the walls were in good enough condition which enabled us to not have to plaster all the walls. This has the benefit of us being able to avoid drying times of the plaster enabling us to tile earlier and complete the job quicker for the client.
Our client had there own carpenter who built the new stud wall which included a pocket door. This again allowed for maximum space within the room.
We adjusted the plumbing and electrical supplies around the room to suit the new installation, and installed boxing around the room to allow for the niches and to hide the concealed toilet cistern and the pipework. We finished the niches and boxings with tiling and a composite worktop on the top of the toilet area boxing.
The floor was self-levelled to allow for the tiled finished floor. This was done as the original floor was very uneven and would have been very difficult to leave a smooth finish on the tiling. Even though we had levelled the floor, we still use the use of levelling spacers on the floor tiles to ensure that finish of perfection with no lips on the corner of the tiles.
The ceiling and a 3 of the walls were plastered around where the new tiling was being installed. We plastered smooth all the way to the floor as the client did not want any skirting in the bathroom. Once dry we could then seal the plaster ready for painting. The walls were painted with a diamond eggshell finish which was mixed to a specific colour via the colour matching system that Dulux offer. We finished the ceiling again with the white diamond eggshell from Dulux. This paint finish is specifically designed for bathrooms.
The main wall tiles were 595 x 295 beige format and were installed landscape and with a straight traditional bond. These were finished with the white tile beading to finish the external edges. We added the also installed the matching floor tiles but in a larger 595 x 595 format.
The client wanted a feature tile on the boxing behind the toilet and basin and we found these beautiful emerald 595 x 295 tiles which really went well with the main tiles. It really gives that “pop” of a feature tile which the client wanted.
The grouting was Bal Micromax 3 in the Jasmine colour.
The vanity unit, long self along the back of the toilet area and niches allow for the customer to have the much needed storage and areas to finish the room with personal items. Sometimes a bathroom can be very difficult to have storage or areas as the end user to add that personal final touch. In a small bathroom these small details have really helped with this.
The bath is specially designed to allow for multi pressure points, this allows the bath to be used for showering as well. This was installed and sealed tightly against the walls before tiling giving extra protection against future issues with leaking which can happen when baths are used for showering. This P shaped bath also incorporates a small shelf / seat area which doesn’t impede of shoulder room but allows for items to be placed safely while showering.
