This kitchen renovation in Stanway, Colchester completely changed the feel of the whole ground floor of the property, transforming the original small impractical and aged kitchen and dining room into this fantastic modern open plan kitchen and dining area. It is now practical for cooking and entertaining and with the new by folding doors we have brought so much more natural light into the room.
Works completed:
The largest part of the works as mentioned above was to transform the original layout, a sperate dining room and kitchen into a larger spacious area. The client also asked us to make an old conservatory into a more usable space rather than just a walkway into the garden and downstairs W/C along with new flooring throughout and into the entrance hallway.
We started by removing the old kitchen, the ceilings, flooring vinyl and carpet in the hallway and dining room getting ready for the removal of the wall. The wall was a structural load bearing partition wall which we removed and added a new steal to support the upstairs. This opened the new kitchen up into this amazing space. The old UPVC door and window were removed and the opening adjusted to allow for a new anthracite aluminium framed by fold door set. All of these works were calculated by a structural engineer and submitted / signed off by building control.
The entire kitchen / dining room, conservatory and hall were rewired, and the plumbing adjusted to suit the needs for the new kitchen layout, which due to the finished flooring in the rooms above meant complete removal of the ceilings which were reboarded and plastered along with all the walls.
In the conservatory we blocked up and old entrance door and boarded the walls before plastering ready for decoration.
We installed the new kitchen and worktops as per design by Howdens joinery and the tiling above the quartz upstand really gave this kitchen a stunning finish.
LVT (luxury vinyl tile) flooring was installed throughout the ground floor and finished in a herringbone style. We over boarded the old floor boards and applied self-levelling compound for that smooth finish required for this floor type.
The finishing touches of the project was to decorate the new kitchen/ dining area, conservatory and hallway and then install the new decorative radiators and the TV onto the walls. We also managed to create a small utility area on the conservatory which allowed for the washing machine to move out of the kitchen area.
