We completed this main bathroom in the centre of Colchester, where we removed the an old dated pink coloured bathroom suite and updated it to this modern sleek looking bathroom complete with wall boards, pumped shower and vanity unit.
Works completed:
We started by removing this old bathroom suite and tiling ready for plastering where required. We found that the plasterboard walls were in good enough condition where the wall boarding was being installed to not be plastered. The rest of the wall and ceiling were fully plastered ready for painting.
The plumbing and electrical supplies were adjusted to suit the new layout of the bathroom. We added 4 spot lights and new inline fan along with other small electrical works to meet current regulations. The plumbing was a little more in depth on this install, where we had to change the hot water cylinder and add a shower pump to allow for good pressure at the shower valve. The rest of the plumbing in the room was either updated / replaced and relocated if needed.
The bath is specially designed to allow for multi pressure points, this allows the bath to be used for showering as well. This was installed and sealed tightly against the walls before the wall is boarded giving extra protection against future issues with leaking which can happen when baths are used for showering.
We installed full height wall boarding around the bath / shower area for water tightness and dropped this down to half height behind the basin and toilet allowing for some of the walls to be painted. This gives a more modern feel to the room with many customers choosing this for their bathrooms in recent times. Using this method the customer is able to change the colour and feel of their bathroom in the future without the expense of changing tiles or wall boarding.
We installed a dual function shower, which was supplied by the new pump to give better pressure. The exposed dual function shower is ideal for wall boarding installations, this is because the unit can easily be serviced, repaired and or replaced in the future. We live in a hard water area, and thermostatic cartridges are susceptible to issues caused by lime scale. With this type of installation no damage needs to be caused if the worst happens and the shower in the future is needing works.
The flooring the customer chose was karndean Palio Clic. We use this product regularly as it’s a hard wearing floor surface and this locks together to form a water proof protection on the floor.
With the toilet installed we were able to install a large 500mm vanity unit giving the customer as the best use of space for storage to hide all those unsightly items that we all need in the bathroom.
The final part of the installation was to install a water conditioner which protects the whole system from limescale. This is called an aquabion and is installed on the cold water inlet before any outlets.
